“The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous availeth much” (James 5:16) — and our ancestors were righteous not because they were allowed to be, but because they chose to be, against all odds. Their cries, like incense, rose beyond plantations and prison walls, through generations of grief and grit. As Psalm 102:18 declares, “Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people yet unborn may praise the Lord.” This verse, born in exile and despair, reminds us that our ancestors' laments and hopes were not lost — they were preserved for us.
